Research Interests & Goals:
Andrea’s research examines the developmental pathways leading to substance use and disorder within the first four decades of life. This work aims to (a) define and differentiate these pathways through epidemiological and etiological studies drawing on multiple longitudinal datasets and the use of advanced statistical methods, (b) clarify the pivotal mechanisms that propel individuals down these pathways drawing on short-term intensive studies of self-medication and peer processes, and (c) develop preventive interventions targeting high-risk families and periods of development as informed by this work more broadly.
